Welcome to the Shitoryu Shukokai Website--still under construction

Chief Dan Grades

We are a group of clubs based in the Humberside area training under Sensei Tony Grainger (6th Dan) a nationally renowned instructor, holding the position of assistant chief instructor in the Shito-Ryu Shukokai Union (SSU). Shito-ryu Shukokai is known for its dynamic, fast, fluid yet still powerful techniques. It focuses on body mechanics and weight transferral to achieve this, as opposed to relying on brute force and strength. Shukokai is translated from Japanese as “The Way for All”. This means that it is intended for all ages and all levels of ability from a 6 year old to a 60 year old, male or female.

Tony Grainger 6th Dan

We practice Shito-ryu Shukokai karate and are still strongly associated with Japan and Sensei Harayoshi Yamada (9th Dan) where the style originated. Shukokai's Japanese roots are centred on the universities of Osaka and Kyoto and their students established the school as a fast and powerful style. Shukokai was the brainchild of Sensei Tani Chojiro.

All of the classes have a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, the instructors all have full liability insurance and have passed the CRB police checks. We currently have clubs in Hull, Hessle and Goxhill.
